Arriving in Beijing
 
MAY 25 -- After a 16 hour flight which included a
plane change in Tokyo, we arrived in Beijing late in the evening
of May 25. The smog at the airport was so thick you could taste
it. Beijing has some of the worst air pollution in the world.
We would experience more of the smog at the end of our trip.
But on to more positive things...
We began our sightseeing in earnest the next morning.
This is a photo of the early morning rush hour in Beijing. The
major thoroughfares in Beijing have separate lanes for motor
vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
